Top tips for picking the perfect engagement ring
Let’s be honest: getting engaged is quite possibly the biggest and scariest step in your life to date. There are so many things to think of before you do and what if you get it wrong?
The first thing to do is not to rush into things. Take your time to prepare and save up for an engagement ring. If you take time to prepare and put some thought into it, you are likely to be able to find an engagement ring she’ll love at a price you can afford.
Some people let their girlfriend select her own favourite engagement ring. If you prefer to surprise her, however, Vashi Dominguez, CEO of DiamondManufacturers.co.uk offers some tips on how to choose the perfect engagement ring.
1. Shop around
Do shop around and browse online jewellery websites to get a good idea of what styles are available and what you could afford. Seeing what is available and at what price will also make you more aware of how to spot a great deal, ensuring you get the most sparkle for your money.
2. Don’t be afraid to ask for help
Do ask her mother, sister, friend or colleague for advice. They’re likely to know what style of jewellery she likes even more than you do. They may also be able to help find out what her ring size is, by casually asking if they could try on one of her rings.
3. Take note
Do take a closer look at what jewellery she already wears. The style and materials used will give you a better idea of what engagement ring she will love. Does she like big, bold jewellery or intricate, subtle rings and earrings? Is her preference for yellow gold, silver or platinum jewellery?
Make sure you take a look at the jewellery she wears all the time, not just occasionally. Does she have a favourite ring she wears on a daily basis? Does she take some of her jewellery off during the day, because it is perhaps not comfortable due to an active lifestyle?
4. Take her shopping
Do take her shopping. You’re pretty much guaranteed to come across a jewellery store or stall and your girlfriend will be only too pleased to point out which rings she likes. That doesn’t mean that she suspects you’re planning to propose to her; most women simply love jewellery. If you hate shopping, why not ask her mother or a friend to take her shopping instead?
5. Decide on a Budget
Do decide how much you can afford to spend on an engagement ring. There is no point in getting into debt for your engagement. Take time to save up as much as possible and only use your credit card if you really need it.
