The Cuban Camden Restaurant & Bar Review
All roads take us back to the beloved Camden Stables Market, this time for a taste of Caribbean cuisine at the lively bar and restaurant aptly named The Cuban.
The Cuban is a relaxed and informal joint. The menu is Cuban but also leans on neighbouring Caribbean influences to produce a varied menu cooked using traditional Spanish methods. The Cuban Restaurant & Bar has a fully stocked bar with over 100 rums alone.
The decor is au natural with great rustic exposed brickwork and the Spanish music drifting out through the speakers gives it an authentic feel; a great place to catch a meal after a day's work. Though The Cuban also works well for a broader clientele of families, friends or first dates. We visited on a Tuesday so had the added surprise of salsa classes on offer in the aisles, a definite high point of the night.
After some guidance from my waitress I kicked off my Cuban experience with the deep fried cassava melon, pan fried tiger prawns and a strawberry mojito... of course anyone who knows me knows me to be a mojito connoisseur. Moving on to my main course, I kept it seafood and opted for the whole tilapia, served with Cuban spiced baby new potatoes and seasoned vegetables. Staying true to the world influences in Cuban cuisine, Head Chef David Parra Galvis has created a menu with a diverse selection of tapas dishes and main courses for all types of palates.
Overall The Cuban Restaurant & Bar is a fun dining experience. Much deserving of a revisit to try out the popular Salsa classes - an obvious hit with the diners. What the food lacked they more than make up for in ambience. The atmosphere was great and worthy of another trip or two to work my way through some of those Havana rums.
