Lyle & Scott SS14 Classic Collection
When asked to name a Scottish fashion label, my mind jumped to Lyle & Scott. Steeped in a 140-year heritage its collections have a contemporary appeal, while staying true to the brand's core values.
Founded in 1874 in the Scottish Border town of Hawick, William Lyle and Walter Scott knew exactly what they were doing, choosing to base their manufacturing in a location renowned for its quality knitwear.
It is from here that Lyle & Scott have evolved, sustaining an air of prestige, while incorporating contemporary aesthetics. Since the 1960s, the brand has earned a reputation as a supplier of stellar golfwear, with the iconic Golden Eagle acquiring noted admirers including Tony Jacklin and Greg Norman.
Now, after building a foundation of such high esteem, Lyle & Scott can combine excellent quality with respected designs.
Lyle & Scott’s SS14 Classic Collection adapts the brand's signature silhouettes and patterns to convey its enduring values: heritage, Scottish culture and classicism. As the most comprehensive of the brand's several collections, Lyle & Scott Classic offers re-worked styles each season, inspired by their rich heritage.
For the SS14 Classic collection, the brand has reinvented one of its staple knitwear designs from the 1980s. Inspired by an archived style, the 'colour block' jumpers and polo shirts feature a striking geometric design in three different colourways mixing navy, white, blue and black.
It is through such designs that the Classic Collection really stands out. As Lyle & Scott build upon their heritage with contemporary takes on vintage creations, it is possible to see how such an historic brand can continue to go from strength to strength.
